lumière de monde
Light of the world
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes let me see
Beauty that made
This heart adores You
Hope of a life spent with You
So here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You're my God
And You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me
King of all days
Oh so highly exalted
Glorious in heaven above
Humbly You came
To the earth You created
All for love's sake became poor
And I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross
And I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross

Hi. I'm Alison's friend Laura. She's sick and feeling uninspired, so I'm posting something for her. I heard this (or something similar) on CBC's Take Five this morning. It's better when you hear it read by Gerard Hoffner.
This is a bricklayer's accident report that was printed in the newsletter of the English equivalent of the Workers' Compensation Board.
Dear Sir:
I am writing in response to your request for additional information in Block #3 of the accident reporting form. I put "Poor Planning" as the cause of my accident. You asked for a fuller explanation and I trust the following details will be sufficient.
I am a bricklayer by trade. On the day of the accident, I was working alone on the roof of a new six-storey building. When I completed my work, I found I had some bricks left over which when weighed later were found to weigh 240 lbs. Rather than carry the bricks down by hand, I decided to lower them in a barrel by using a pulley which was attached to the side of the building at the sixth floor.
Securing the rope at ground level, I went up to the roof, swung the barrel out and loaded the bricks into it. Then I went down and untied the rope, holding it tightly to insure a slow descent of the 240 lbs of bricks. You will note on the accident reporting form that my weight is 135 lbs.
Due to my surprise at being jerked off the ground so suddenly, I lost my presence of mind and forgot to let go of the rope. Needless to say, I proceeded at a rapid rate up the side of the building.
In the vicinity of the third floor, I met the barrel which was now proceeding downward at an equally impressive speed. This explains the fractured skull, minor abrasions and the broken collarbone, as listed in Section 3, accident reporting form.
Slowed only slightly, I continued my rapid ascent, not stopping until the fingers of my right hand were two knuckles deep into the pulley which I mentioned in Paragraph 2 of this correspondence. Fortunately by this time I had regained my presence of mind and was able to hold tightly to the rope, in spite of the excruciating pain I was now beginning to experience.
At approximately the same time, however, the barrel of bricks hit the ground - and the bottom fell out of the barrel. Now devoid of the weight of the bricks, the barrel weighed approximately 50 lbs.
I refer you again to my weight. As you might imagine, I began a rapid descent down the side of the building.
In the vicinity of the third floor, I met the barrel coming up. This accounts for the two fractured ankles, broken tooth and severe lacerations of my legs and lower body.
Here my luck began to change slightly. The encounter with the barrel seemed to slow me enough to lessen my injuries when I fell into the pile of bricks and fortunately only three vertebrae were cracked.
I am sorry to report, however, as I lay there on the pile of bricks, in pain, unable to move and watching the empty barrel six stories above me, I again lost my composure and presence of mind and let go of the rope.
I now wish to request sick leave.
(get well soon alison!)

Alex lifts his dark sunglasses up from his face as he saunters into his fave Tim Horton's, inhaling the delightful scents wafting through the premesis. As usual, the line-up reaches the glass doors of the entrance. Sighing, Alex jingles the ring of keys in his pocket impatiently and peers at the display of his cell phone, attempting to look the picture of extreme coolness (failing utterly and completely, coming across as a dork instead). The line crawls along at what seeems akin to a snails pace and people chat amongst themselves. Alex finds himself behind a man, a complete stranger, and proceeds to talk business with him. The entire point of the conversation centres on one word -money (and how to get it). Shifting his Thermos from one hand to the other, Alex incoherently hum-mumbles a few strains from what we will presume to be a Dianna Krall song. Finally he reaches the counter and the Thermos is plunked down infront of the girl behind it. The girl obediently fills the jug with fresh, gorgeous coffee and begins to ring it up on the till. Alex leans an elbow on the counter and smiles rather cockily.
"This holds five cups, so you should give me five cups."
The girl is flustered, she tells him she did fill it. Alex smirks and reminds her in no uncertain terms of "Roll Up The Rim To Win" and his
right to have five chances, seen-as-how he was purchasing five cups worth of the coffee. She flushes and hands him a stack of five paper cups.
Satisfied, Alex swaggers out of the shop and settles himself behind the wheel of his large Ford truck. He fishes the jingling key-ring from his pocket and stabs the appropriate key into the ignition. Strains of Coldplay fill the cab and he murmers along as he rrrrrolls up the rrrrims of all five of the cardboard cups. The first rrrrim reveals the he has won a doughnut. The second, a bike. Thirdly, Alex has won a Plasma television. Fourth, a new truck. And the fifth cup pronounced him the winner of a cash prize of $1,000.
Alex nods his head and presses his lips into a satisfied smirk. He pulls his shades down infront of his eyes and turns up the tunes. He nods again, in some sort of time to the music.
"Not bad..."

When I awoke yesterday morning it was snowing. Yes, snowing. The sky remained cold and grey for the entire day, snow and sleet streaking the air. Things have not improved much for today. Overnight the snow had accumulated into a blanket about 2 or 3 inches thick. The roads are slick, and I am sick (with the remain of a horrid cold). Joy.

On Saturday night I had a strange and horrid dream that I actually remember parts of (i don't normally wake dring REM....). I was in a small, old dingy eating establishment attached to a motel... I was with a bunch of my friends, and I had set my purse on the floor under the table... in this dream, i forgot about it until the next morning, and i totally freaked out because the purse had everything from my birth cert. to my camera inside. We retraced all my actions from the day before, and narrowed it down to the motel... We asked the waitress if she had seen it, etc, and she said she had not... then somehow we found the camera's case, and inside it was the remains of a lollipop i'd had inside my bag, and I held them up triumphantly.... "I'll track down the thief! Fingerprints! DNA!" My friends looked at me like "wat a nerd", but they went along with me... Somehow we did get all this info collected and finally figured out that it was the waitress who was the guilty party... I was so irritated that when I awoke, I had to think twice to be sure it WAS just a dream.... ROTFLMHO... It was quite something.... kinda scary, eh? ;-)
This morning the weather is kinda blechy. It was raining when I left for work, then sleet came streaking down... and the skies were not blue and the clouds were the opposite of poof and white... they were flat and grayish-off-white.... *sigh* yesterday was such a beautiful sunshiney day... today felt like a real let-down after that... *chuckles*
Late afternoon saw the sky breaking open into a cheer blue and the sunshine came srtreaming down.... the clouds transformed into fluffy white puffs.... :-D It has indeed developed into quite the pleasant evening.... :-)
hmmm.. I have to go drive my mom, sister and myslef around Stony Plain tonight.... *sigh* I will have to finish my thoughts L8R... :-o
TTFN ;-)
Ok I'm back, but I'm way to tired for this.. so I'll post this before today is tomorrow... I'll b back... later... sometime... when i've had sleep...and when i make time..... hehehe... g'nite :-)
